NATIONAL AND INTERNATIONAL CHANGE AND THE CASE OF ISTANBUL AND TURKEY
Abstract
The article is concerned with the new paradigmatic shifts in social and economic analyses of space as regards the connection between cities, nation states
and globalisation. The case of stanbul is used in order to get into a dialogue
with those paradigms. The paper argues that the historical and geographical
position of the state is more determining than that of the city, as justified by
the situation of stanbul within Turkey
