A modern európai állam, állami szuverenitás, népszuverenitás

Abstract

Az Európai Unióban vita folyik a nemzetállamok jelenlegi szerepéről és jövőbeni perspektívájáról. Egyesek szerint a nemzetállam elavult, képtelen a modern kihívások kezelésére. Mások szerint a nemzetállam jelenleg és a jövőben is a modern kihívások kezelésének intézménye. A két vélemény közötti ellentét kulcskérdései a nemzetállamok helye és szerepe az Európai Unióban és az állami szuverenitás és a népszuverenitás viszonya. A tanulmány a modern európai állam történetének áttekintésével, az állam és a nemzet viszonyának, valamint a szuverenitás különböző értelmezésének feltárásával kíván hozzájárulni a vitához.

Modern European state, sovereignty, popular sovereignty

There is a great debate in the European Union on the present role of nation states and their future role. Some say that the concept of nation states is out-of-date and incapable of facing the challenges of the modern world while others believe that the nation state is a means of dealing modern challenges. The key questions of the disagreement is the place and role of nation states in the European Union and the relation of state sovereignty and popular sovereignty. This study joins the discussion by reviewing the history of the modern European state, the relation of state and nation and different interpretations of sovereignty.
